[ANSWERED] Which selection removes snmpapi.dll?

Hi,

I want to keep this file (snmpapi.dll), but I cannot guess which selection is removing it

I am building a small Windows 8.1 installation for a VM to test some internet stuff and for example "netstat" is complaining about missing "snmpapi.dll" and refuses to work.
I tried keeping "SNMP Trap Service", but it isn't that.
I also don't think it is the feature "Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)" as I haven't kept that in my other setups, but they have "snmpapi.dll".

Until you find out the answer to that question, what happens when you copy the file back to the System32 folder (from an original source), does that temporarily solve the problem??

Yes, simply copying the file from the original DVD ISO to "system32" makes netstat work.
Tested also with an actual command (netstat -a -n) and I get the correct output.

Of course I prefer a more elegant way of keeping this functionality than manually copying the file

there is a snmp Service is im not mistaken

In "Features" there is an object called "SNMP Service", but I don't have that selected in the installation where snmpapi.dll was included. So I don't know if it actually adds a service called "SNMP Service", but probably yes.

So far it seems that keeping either "Windows Firewall" and/or "Internet Connection Sharing" service(s) keeps also snmpap.dll.
I made an image with both of these and snmpapi.dll was kept.

Maybe winterstorm2050 can confirm which one unless I have time to test creating yet another image before that

hi i tested it (winreducer 7 only)

i removed from a fresh windows 7 x64 untouched

Firewall service (snmpapi.dll wasnt removed by that service)
Internet connection sharing (snmpapi.dll wasnt removed by that service)

I did the same with untouched Windows 8.1 x86. I removed both Windows Firewall and ICS and snmp.api was kept.
It is indeed something else... Will investigate more

So "snmapi.dll" is only removed if you use "Features - Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)" associated with the "Remove" setting !

It's the same for Windows 7 ...

Just another information, if you use "Preset - Automatic Removing Process" and remove "Services - SNMP Trap", then "Features - Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)" is not automatically removed !

For the moment, the only way to keep this file is to "Disable" (not "Remove") "Features - Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)" until the "Keep File List Configurator" will be available ...

or you could Mount the wim with winreducer and before you start the process go to WORM\MOUNT\Windows\system32 (and syswow64) and copy the .dll to another place

than dont use the Option to save in wim or iso -> start the process to remove snmp (Service /Feature)

after winreducer is finished and the window opens to save in wim /iso go back to WORM\MOUNT\Windows\system32 (and syswow64) and copy the files back.

now save your file in wim/iso

Also great to hear that you are working on "Keep File List Configurator". This will be a nice addition when you need some single file, but not the whole "component".

Thanks for the tip of not setting "Save in WIM/ISO" settings before applying WinReducer changes.
I didn't think of it since WinReducer added the ability to automatically "Save in WIM/ISO" I forgot it was once a manual step in the end and didn't realize one could still do so!
I was just thinking I have to (G)imagex the snmpapi.dll into the wim

I was once offered to protect this file
I keep snmpapy.dll in a separate folder, and then delete the protocol SNMP throw this dll in the folder sistem32 and syswow64
