[EX-100 - v1.9.11.0] [RS3 Build 16299.125 x64] Application not functioning properly

on Tue 9 Jan 2018 - 0:34
I downloaded this version of WinReducer upgrading from 1.9.10.0, which functioned flawlessly, and still does, but I had the bug where the Windows Store would crash unexpectedly, so switched to version 1.9.11.0 after finding out it had a fix for it.

This version of WinReducer seems to, on a fresh install have no problem mounting, but upon creation of an ISO, it completes without error, and there is no ISO. Afterwards, if I try to mount my Windows 10 ISO again, it fails to mount. It seems to be related to
Code:
..\WinReducerEX100_x64\WORK\MOUNT\TEMP_Windows\Windows\System32\config
It seems my system is assuming the following files:

  • DRIVERS
  • DRIVERS.LOG1
  • DRIVERS.LOG2
  • DRIVERS{47a6a166-a514-11e7-a94e-ec0d9a05c860}.TM.blf
  • DRIVERS{47a6a166-a514-11e7-a94e-ec0d9a05c860}.TMContainer00000000000000000001.regtrans-ms
  • DRIVERS{47a6a166-a514-11e7-a94e-ec0d9a05c860}.TMContainer00000000000000000002.regtrans-ms

Are system files, and are currently in use by my SYSTEM process on my host Windows 8.1 OS. Upon inspection using ProcessExplorer, I discovered that they are indeed used by my SYSTEM process. I can only delete these files by going into command prompt in my Windows Recovery Environment, and deleting them manually. After doing so, I can once again mount an ISO, and complete the WinReducer deletion process, again with no ISO output, and once again the files appear.
I'm going to back-pedal to a version where the Windows Store isn't crashing unexpectedly in the mean time, please help. Let me know if I can provide additional information.

I am currently running Windows 8.1 *6.3.9600 Enterprise
The ISO of Windows 10 is genuine from my MSDN subscription, it is the latest 1709 (multi edition) DVD ISO.

I've been playing around with it a bit, got a new ISO for Windows 10 Enterprise with 1709 integrated, and discovered a couple of errors in the log file above. Apparently it might have something to do with the "Computer Browser Service?" Not sure what that means, but it might have to do with my configuration being no good somehow. It is a massive strip-down style configuration, a test to see how far I can go while still maintaining the Windows Modern UI applications, including Microsoft Edge. I will play with my configuration a bit more to test it out. I have also discovered that after a simple reboot I can once again delete the files used by "SYSTEM." This is all a bit confusing, and I would appreciate some input.

hello,

for me it seems like the DRIVERS registry hive is not correctly unmounted and thats why it is not working to create a wim file (and also an iso).
like you said a reboot solves it since the registry hive is unmounted, so you can delete the file.

it surely is a bug and not a problem with your way of removing to much components.

Okay so after many more tries, fresh installs, and messing with my config, I managed to get rid of the  "Computer Browser Service" error, which is created by using the WinterStorm profile for services, for some reason it doesn't like to have the service "Computer Browser Service" set to anything other than default. And... Still no dice, it won't create an ISO, it still fails to mount until I manage to delete the \WORK\MOUNT\TEMP_Windows folder.
Code:
***** 1/9/2018 11:29:34 PM - SESSION OPENED *****
INFO : WinReducer ---> EX-100 [v1.9.11.0 (x64)]

I didn't give up there, taking an obvious (I can't believe I was so stupid as to not try this already) hint from which files the cleaner seems to be having trouble with, I decided to disable all the driver options I choose in the config. And... Presto:
Code:

It worked at long last, but 2750062 Kb is a bit thick, so... That stinks, removing drivers is a huge way to get back some bytes. I then decided to try for hours and hours of reducing checking each driver one by one narrowing down which driver caused the problem. Finally,
Code:

I figured out exactly which individual driver it was removing that caused the problem, and solved it, and now how a beautiful clean ISO.

So, I am proud to finally announce that "Battery Support" driver removal is broken, and so is changing "Computer Browser Service" to anything other than default.

Thank you KrX, you seem to know where to start fixing these issues. In the meantime, I will not be reducing for a while, I am very happy with my ISO.

Hello,

I solved issue with services error log in v1.9.12.0 ... but about the battery, have you also removed the "Multimedia - Battery Meter" (are you using a laptop or a desktop computer ?)

About the bug with registry, I will try with windows 8.1 to customize windows 10, but have you tried to disable your antivirus or any other registry optimizer (which are especially known to create trouble with the necessary tasks)

I wish you to have a nice day !

P.S. : Could you please try to respect the correct title format (please check all other bugs topics titles), and correct your title ... this helps me to check easily all bugs ... thanks.

I can confirm that I am using an old WinReduced version of Windows 8.1 as my host OS, with my Windows defender and firewall removed, I also am not using any antivirus or registry cleaner. The only third-party application installed on this host OS is the Yandex Browser. I am on a desktop computer, this is definitely unrelated but this host OS isn't my Computer's operating system, I am using KVM with GPU pass-through on ArchLinux w/ OpenRC+Gentoo Kernel, that's why I can only spare 12 threads for reducing. Also, if you check my other post, I am most certain that I removed Multimedia - Battery Meter as well.
