After...

Issues with installs, problems finalizing installs editing registry, odd things regarding updates - some work others refuse to install - more install problems, various issue using local admin account...etc... etc...

C:\Windows\Temp

WHY was this folder hidden?  WHY was this folder locked down?

After adding 'everyone' with read/write access and unhiding it - pretty much ALL my issues I have had with this buidl went away.

Can somebody tell me what setting, if anything did this?

Thanks.

I have noticed the similar issues.  I have tested the 1703 edition, because for this edition were published monthly security updates. I did not tested previous editions. In my case big cumulative updates did not install for image modified by WinReducer. My workaround was the following. When I didn't integrate the cumulative updates in the slipstreaming process, forecoming updates in installed Windows went by flawlessly. When I did, cumultative updates didn't want to install. This is the case with the WinReducer updated system image (some services, components removed, unattended installation etc.)

THANK YOU - so clearly there is something not working right with winreducer.
I can confirm another flaw int his software, it cannot work with ISOs containing multiple WIndows 10 versions.  Example, the ISO from Microsoft which contains Home, Pro, Cloud, etc versions.  when opening the ISO or the folder, I get the drop down menu, I select the windows edition and MOUNT, then it gets stuck during the mounting process with CPUs at 100%.........  In NTLite, no problem.  When running an ISO or folder with a single version of windows it works fine in winreducer, as far as mounting, but winreducer messes up the ISO.

No issues at all when integrating the updates in NTLite and updating future updates.  I am trying several combinations to try to find the culprit.

The developers just install the winreduceri mage and say "BAM it works no issues" this is not the proper way to test things.  Thanks for the testimony though, I know I am not crazy.

Winreduced images work and do install, so long as you do not need to install a new cumulative update, it won't work !! as you experienced too.

Same issue in 1709.

I have observed the issue concerning installing forecoming cumultative updates !!ONLY!! in case updates were previously integrated in the install image. I use ISO downloaded from Microsoft which includes different editions. I assume you use the same ISO too. I did not observe any problems with mounting different editions, selecting different editions etc.

WinReducer is a really great software in my honest opinion and it works nicely for me excepting the update integration issue. Besides it has a few tweaking and optimizing options that NTLite does not have. I have to mention that I have bought NTLite license and I use this software too.

Hello,

rimmer66, this is your first and last warning about the forum rules respect.

No need to use multiple posts on the same subject (by the way, I will delete many of them in order to keep only the useful one[s). We are all here because of the passion of tweaking Windows, and the bugs are also a part of it : so are you here to report or help ... or just to complain and compare different subject ?

I would like to thank all users who are trying to help you even if you constantly complains ... and let me explain this, our passion is to have the maximum options possible to customize Windows Operating System. So in WinReducer you have up to 1100 different possibilities, and if you are a mathematician you may easily find the total number of different combination available ... so sometimes there are troubles, to solve them, the bugs report forum part is here to do things better ... and complaining all the time is not the solution because I read all posts with great care about what every members says, and it takes time to read yours.

OK so, about your updates integration troubles :
- describe the entire, and precise, procedure (Windows name, winreducer version, updates names, ...) you are using, may be a better idea to help you figures this out !
- have you at least read the mini tutorial available in this post :  [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
- or read this website tutorial (Windows Updates) :  [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
- or read this website tutorial (Windows Updates) : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
- or read this website tutorial (Net 3.5) : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I have to agree with Vitos, this is great software and with all things that manipulate ISO, installs, OS etc... you have to take care in what you change.  As far as I can see WinReducer does it's best to save you from yourself in this case.

I had the .Net 3.5 issue initially but with some great help from Winterstorm in the form of links to forum I embedded this along with all the latest updates.

Not sure why the C:\Windows\Temp folder became Hiidden and locked down as I couldn't see anything in the WinReducer Settings that would do this.  After I found this and added 'everyone' with full rights it worked fine.  Bear in Mind 'SYSTEM' and 'MSIinstaller' etc.. all had write permissions while the issue persisted.  Bit odd.

rimmer66; it's not constructive just to say, this isn't working, nothing is working... the clue is in the title ~ 'Project' and feedback is what makes things better.

I'll get a copy of the .wcf and upload to this thread.

Although rimmer66 has unintentionally criticized the software, his criticism is not entirely unfounded.

In my opinion, the major problem with the release of WinReducer EX-100 software - v1.9.0.0 (in previous versions was similar) is incorrectly overlapping large monthly updates. You can carry out such a test. Namely, try to integrate with the system for example Windows 10 Pro version 1703, eg September Microsoft fixes without interfering with the system image at all and does not remove any components or services from it. Then install this image on the virtual machine and run Windows Update. As it turns out, a large October update will probably not install and after restart an error will appear.

In addition, I wanted to write about one very important issue. Namely, after installing a system modified slightly by WinReducer EX-100 - v1.9.0.0 command issued from the command line "sfc /verifyonly" shows errors to be viewed in the CBS.log. There are quite a few there, and they concern the poor consistency of the installed Windows image. For comparison, the image modified by NTLite passes consistency tests flawlessly. Previously rimmer66 wrote about this issue.

I am not criticizing the quality of the WinReducer EX-100 here, but I would like to draw the attention to the issues I have described.

Best regards

One tip I can give is avoid re-reducing images that were already reduced by winreducer or ntlite and always start frmo a fresh base from an officially downloaded ISO + adding the latest updates available manually, but always using a fresh base and not reprocessing a previously winreduced image or ntelited image.
Unfortunately yes, Winreducer does have issues, particularly when removing some components - the OS WILL install, without errors so it appears to work, but later on you will run into issues.  Winreducer allows some files / components to be removed that can be essential later on in specific conditions or during an update.
So the best way is probably to only use winreducer or ntelite to apply tweaks, and build own custom scripts to apply post install, to remove unwanted components and trim the fat.

As far as winreducer, when not removing any component and just applying tweaks, the only error I have observed int he CBS are duplicate ownerships errors.  This is usually non critical and can be fixed by running sfc - no other corruption or file integrity observed after that - but when using winreducer to remove some drivers/components/other, you will see those more critical errors.  even when using protect windows switches or the respective protective switches.

As far as net3.5 could not get it to work with winreducer, it does not integrate properly.
In NTLITE it seems to integrate, BUT when trying to disable it in features I still get an error that base is not present or something similar.

So probably the best way to integrate net35 is post install
DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:g:\sources\sxs
(replace g with whatever drive letter contains your windows install media.
But even using that method, if you try to DISABLE the feature from turn on/off features, it willg ive you an error and not allow you to disable it, BUT otherwise it works, and have run some net3.5 specific apps successfully.   I compared NTLite integrating the .19 update against winreducer, and in NTLite it was flawless.  in Winreducer, it integrated it, but the install was messed up, would take several clicks to the start menu icon for it to open up, sometimes stalling completely, sometimes windows stalling completely, even with 0-2% CPU usage, whilst on NTLite it went flawless.  I am only but making FACTUAL criticism, not here just to complain and troll.  But when you clearly see a developer take offense and try to move unresolved topics as answered and solved, it says a lot..........  One thing where WinReducer shines, is the user interface and the "tweaks" section which has more options that NTLite lacks,  if only it was possible to use both without messing up the ISO it would be great.
I am not attacking anybody PERSONALLY here, it's not PERSONAL, it is about my observation on the software itself, and I am glad that at least another person has had the courage to speak up about these issues.
No matter what software you use, you cannot slim down windows without some consequences and side effects - you might get the illusion that everything is fine because the OS installs and is functional, BUT deep inside, there WILL be issues eventually - you might or might not experience those, depending on what you use windows for, but at some point an update might come along the way and "expect" one or more of these components to be present - and if those are not found, the whole update would fail.
This applies to all software, though NTLite seems less forgiving of such things and offers better protection, though not flawless........Unless you are doing GAMING I would recommend leaving all drivers and components as is, and only applying tweaks - then using post scripts instead, along with scripts to reverse changes if needed.

A.  A tip provided by Winterstorm refutes this.  And I feel is a good way to work.

Each time I need to create an updated ISO (with all latest updates integrated) :
- Few months ago, I created a wccf file (with only "Integrate - Updates", "Integrate - Net Framework 3.5" and "Automatic ISO creation" options selected)
- I download all new updates (using the WinReducer Updates Catalog)
- I mount an Official and Original ISO (so without modifications)
- I "LOAD" this wccf file
- Then, I just hit "APPLY" button to create my new updated ISO
- Finally keep this ISO in a safe folder, in order to customize it every time you need

B. The issue was .Net 3.5 would fail to install post build, regardless of the method used - and I tried all of them.  This was solved by another guide form Winterstorm.

1 - If it's not already done, upgrade EX-100 to v1.8.5.0 (to support the new Net Framework 3.5 integration system)

2 - do you have the Original ISO of your customized system ?
. if Yes : just mount this Original ISO, then the source file is automatically copied in the correct folder (you have nothing more to do, just go to step 3 below)
. if No : be sure to have the correct cab source file version for your Windows 10 Version (TH1, TH2, RS1 or RS2) ... then you have to manually rename the cab source , you downloaded, using the information in red color in the tutorial, finally copy this file in the folder "...\WinReducerEX100\WORK\INTEGRATE\UPDATES\Net Framework 3.5\x64 (or x86)" . And mount your ISO.

3 - Go to the "System" tab, then you will see a line named "Net Framework 3.5", then click on the button named "...", a file dialog window will appear, then just hit the "OK" button in the dialog window and the correct path will be display in the textbox (you have nothing more to do)

4 - Then "APPLY" the changes and create a new ISO

C. This issue also occured, when clicking on the task bar to access the wireless etc.. long delays for anything to appear.  Short trm solution was to install the 'classic menu' from NINITE.  After some discussion it seemed to relate to the windows 'Administrator' account that had been modified during the setup, setting a password etc..

~

Overall the support from Winterstorm personally, the admins and the forum members has been fanatastic.  I have no doubt with our combined input any outstanding issues will be addressed in time.

~

Sorry JPM.  WCF is available here as I can't seem to attach files.

my remarks is why to use Something Under investigation as "Windows Update Files cleanup"

I didn't realise "Windows Update Files cleanup" was under investigation.  When did that happen?  Bear in mind I purchased this in May and the builds were created around July.

its under investigation since some time. it breaks i.e. windows features -> enable net 3.5 (and probably 4.6/4.7). this bug was solved for RS1 but it still happens for RS2 and RS3 and im on it

@krX not sure why you get trouble with the 3.5 installation/integration but at least I integrate it succesfully as I said

If I remember I only get trouble with VLC which is not able to acces the submenu to launch the video so I need to reinstall the 3.5 with the Windows feature activation

i didnt try integration, just using a normal iso and removed that component and after that i cant enable (download and install) via windows features.
