(v2.1.8.1 / Win10Home-64-1903 v10.0.18362.329)

Ladies and gentleman,
I give you SPEECH Very Happy

It was the most difficult root cause to find.

Remover - Multimedia  -  Speech  (not the voice activation one, just Speech)

This is the root cause !! aargh (in addition to the Insider service)
This feature breaks Start-Menu-Cortana-Search

But there's more..
This "feature" not only breaks Cortana-Search, it also generates a lag cross Windows UI's, anywhere!, websites responsiveness, Start menu responsiveness, Applications launch, why MS?, why ?

Anyhow, if NOT removed, you'll enjoy a super smooth and faaaaaaast Windows UI + a fully functional Start-menu-Cortana-Search Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Yippee!!

Enjoy,
Neo

Hi Neo,

thank you for your post! I have not encountered problems in removing Speech before, but I encountered today that for me the service Capability Access Manager Service (camsvc) caused some big troubles with the new windows settings page. Can you please check, if this service is set to automatically and running at your system and report back. Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Markus

hi Markus Smile

For Speech (switch) under Multimedia tab, I've verified its impact more than once.
It does break Start-Menu-Search + adds a huge lag to the whole Windows UI (when removed).
Took me ages to isolate that broken item.

Regarding the Capability service fail, that you experience,
Capability service is not available to modify on 2.1.8.1 or 2.1.9.0.
But, if you're removing DotNet components, that could break the Capability service.
I do not remove DotNet items. None of them.
On my build, Capability service is set to 'Manual' , and starts on-demand with no issues.
Overall, it seems like an important service, it has an impact on Privacy settings, Focus assist, and some Modern apps.

If you wish to send me your WCCF, on a direct-message, I can identify which items are causing you this fail.

Best regards,
Neo

Thank Markus,
Link is unavailable for me though.
Can you please upload it to a different site ?

Also, fyi, am using - Windows 10 Home 64, 1903, v10.0.18362.329 with latest security updates.
I wonder if that makes a difference in my results.

Thanks much,
Neo

Hi Neo,

I am very sorry, our network had some issues yesterday. Can you please try again, or else use this link: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I guess that Windows 10 Home might make a difference as I was working with Windows 10 Pro

Thank you once again for your time Smile

Best regards,
Markus

hey Markus Smile

From your WCCF, I would test the following items, by unchecking them
(all at once, on first try, and then try to narrow to the root cause)
- the items are sorted from top priority at the top and lowest priority/probability at the bottom:
Remove - Modern UI Apps - Parental Controls
Remove - Modern UI Apps - Framework (Appointment)
Remove - Modern UI Apps - Framework (Chat)
Remove - Modern UI Apps - Framework (Contact)
Remove - Modern UI Apps - Framework (Email)
Remove - Modern UI Apps - Framework (People)
Optimizations - EXPERT - WinSXS Folder Cleanup (boot.wim)
Presets - Automatic Removing Process (Expert Optimization)
Presets - Automatic Removing Process
Remove - Modern UI Apps - File Explorer

Capability service might be dependent on DotNet environment,
- but even Parental controls break some Modern UI apps and likely services related.

You can find more helpful data in here, where I've reported most of the problems I found in a single post.

Please let me know if you're still struggling with a malfunction capability service after this trial and error process, and I'll do best to continue helping as I can.

Best regards,
Neo

Hi Neo,

sorry for the delay! For me my Windows is working as good with the components removed as without and like I said, the only thing really causing my troubles is the camsvc service. Smile So from my point of view this is solved for me. But of course I hope that this is helping other users searching for a solution if the encounter any lags. Smile Thank you!

Best regards,
Markus

hi Markus,
No worries Smile please excuse me for my delayed reply as well Smile

About the issue itself, note, that if your PC is fast, you might not notice the UI lags,
but regarding the broken Start-Menu-Search, that's something that you cannot miss.

Can you please verify:
1. That you've specifically removed >> Multimedia - Speech
2. That you have NOT applied any registry changes or Tweaks as part of WinReducer, especially Not disabling Cortana Web Search.
3. When you type Paint in Start menu >> do you get a fully functional search UI on Windows 10, exactly like the screenshot below ?

Screenshot:

Since you were so confident, I've went ahead and tested this issue for the 3rd time, and with the same single switch in Multimedia - Speech, I got the same broken results , as I have reported initially, Multimedia - Speech does break Start-Menu Search and creates a lag on Windows UI.

Best regards,
Neo

Hi Neo,

yes the lag might be more present on a slower mashine. Smile

As I told you, with my wccf the installed windows is working just fine and pops up immediately the search suggestions like it is in your picture Smile

So the only difference between us is the Windows version itself right? You said that you are using Windows 10 Home and I am using Windows 10 Pro.
One other thing that might influence our testings is that I have nearly all protections selected to on?

This is ineed very strange! For now there is no more testing needed at your side. But is it possible that you can provide me your *.wccf? Or do you want to compare the wccfs yourself? Smile

Thank you once again for all your time and help. I hope we can nail the problem down shortly!

Best regards,
Markus

hi Markus,

I am 100% certain that your WCCF includes enabled Tweaks, that bypass the problem, that Multimedia-Speech creates.
If you'll install a build and apply that switch only, it WILL break the functions that I've reported at the top of this thread.

The bug is valid. I will allow WinterStorm time to explore it, when possible, no rush.
For now, this switch is OFF on my WCCF to avoid the fails related.

Anyhow, about my WCCF, I will share it with the community within the next days or so.
It will provide a great baseline for many many WinReducer customers. More to come soon Smile ..

Best regards,
Neo

I confirm now. If you only remove Multimedia-Speech this breaks the search!

So we wait for WinReducer to jump in and hopefully find the issue Smile+

Markus
